Tideborn Empires

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Tideborn Empires asks you to grow a chain of islands from a single fishing dock into a small maritime power. It's turn-based rather than real-time, which is perfect for offline play because you can take your time on every decision. I found myself pausing to think about supply routes the way I would over a board game.

The economy has real weight. Overbuild your navy and your food runs short; ignore defense and pirates thin your fleet. The AI opponents make sensible moves, and there's a genuine tension between expanding fast and staying stable. Everything runs locally with no server checks.

It's not a flashy game, and the tutorial could be clearer, but once it clicks you'll lose whole evenings to it. A great choice for anyone who misses proper strategy on a phone.
