Five offline RPGs that don't need a single bar of signal

Finding a real RPG that runs fully offline is harder than it should be. So many of them sneak in online checks or lock progress behind servers. We dug through dozens to find ones that respect airplane mode.

Emberwood Tales tops my personal list for its writing, but the genre has more to offer than that. What I look for is a save system that lives on your phone and combat that doesn't require constant patches to feel fair.

The best offline RPGs treat downtime as an asset. Turn-based systems in particular shine when you might get interrupted, because you can put the phone down mid-battle without losing anything. That's exactly what you want on a bus or in a waiting room.

If you're building a small library for travel, mix one big story-driven game with a lighter one. Some days you want a hundred-hour epic; other days you just want a quick quest before your stop.
