Why we only cover games that work offline

Why we only cover games that work offline

Every game on this site has to pass one test: does it keep working when the internet doesn't? It sounds simple, but it rules out a shocking number of titles that quietly demand a connection just to open a menu.

There's a practical reason and a principled one. Practically, phones lose signal all the time, in tunnels, on flights, in the countryside. A game that dies without a connection is a game you can't rely on when you most want a distraction.

The principle is about control. When a game runs offline, it usually means the studio built something self-contained rather than a funnel that needs you online for tracking or nudges. That tends to correlate with games that respect your attention.

We're not against multiplayer or online features in general. We just think there's a real need for a corner of the internet dedicated to games that stand on their own. So that's what we do here.
