Can real strategy games work on a phone? Mostly yes

I used to think strategy belonged on a keyboard and mouse. Then I spent a month with turn-based games on my phone and changed my mind. The key is pacing, not platform.

Real-time strategy on a small screen can be fiddly, no argument there. But turn-based games like Tideborn Empires sidestep the problem entirely. You get all the time you need to plan, and tapping is plenty precise for moving units around.

Offline is a natural fit here too. Since there's no clock ticking against another player, you can pause mid-turn for as long as you like. That makes these games perfect for stop-start play during a commute.

If you've written off phone strategy, give a turn-based title a proper weekend. Learn the economy, lose a few games, and let it click. It's more rewarding than it looks at first.
